Aim
This course aims to help students become familiar with the structure and functions of the body as a whole.
Students will learn about its constituent tissues, organs and systems. This course will lay the foundation for students who may want to continue and study Pathology and Therapeutics.

The course comprises 10 modules covering the anatomy and physiology of the major systems of the human body.

Module 1: The body: Basic terminology
Module 2: Cells and Tissues
Module 3: The Musculo-skeletal tissue and the Skeleton
Module 4: The Respiratory system
Module 5: The Digestive System
Module 6: The Cardiovascular System and the Lymphatic System
Module 7: The Urinary System
Module 8: The Reproductive System
Module 9: The Nervous System
Module 10: The Endocrine System
Objectives
By the time the above modules have been completed each student should be able to:
· Understand the structure of cells and tissues
· Describe the macroscopic and microscopic anatomy of organs and tissues of the body using a systems approach for the following systems:
Musculo-skeletal
Gastro-intestinal
Cardiovascular and Lymphatic
Respiratory
Nervous
Endocrine
· Explain the functions of the body
Method of Study
One year Distance Learning with Continuous assessment
Qualification
Students who satisfactorily complete this course are awarded a Certificate in Anatomy and Physiology for Alternative Therapies from the LSCH.
