St. Patrickβs Best it is one of three Irish beers from our St. Patrickβs range, alongside St. Patrickβs Ale/Dark and Gold.
St. Patrick set sail for Ireland in 432AD, landing initially at Inver Dee, Co Wicklow and then in Strangford Lough at the village of Raholp. He converted the local chieftian Dichu to Christianity, building his first church at Saul. Returning to Slemish, the scene of his captivity, he made Armagh the primacy of the Christian Church in Ireland.
The next is Barelegs Brew which is named in honour of King Magnus Barelegs who reigned as King of Norway from 1093 until his death in 1103. His real name was Magnus Barefoot, but he was nicknamed Barelegs because he wore tunics which barely reached his knees - a novel sight at a time when men wore long tunics that reached the ankle. And last but not least Legbiter is the other Irish beer in the Magnus range alongside Barelegs. Legbiter is named after King Magnusβ sword. On the day of his death Magnus is described as βregaled with a helmet on his head, a red shield in which was a gilded Lion and girt with the sword Legbiterβ. Legbiterβs hilt was tooth (ivory) and the hand grip wound about with gold thread and was extremely sharp!
